Young Gladiators stars Lena Noreses and Carmel Donn are off to Germany on Tuesday for an eight-month internship in Physiotherapy at Westfalia-Wilhelmsfeld.

The two national under-20 players and Women Super league club-mates at the JS Academy will also get a chance to advance their footballing skills and techniques at the Westphalia club and their national team coach Jacqui Shipanga expressed her excitement about the move.

“This is a great move for the girls and this milestone can be attributed to the excellent relationship of the NFA and the German- Westphalia region, which now sees five girls from Namibia plying their trade in Germany. Vewe Kotjipati, Mammie Kasaona and Stacey Naris, are all in Germany and showing great promise.”

Shipanga added that the more players in Germany, the better for the national team as Namibia looks to do well in their maiden CAF Women Championship next year on home soil.

“Having five girls receiving the top level training on a daily basis will not only benefit them personally but it will strengthen the Brave Gladiators Team in preparation of the 2014 AWC. The President of the Association John Muinjo has an obvious soft spot for the development of the Women's Game and all these opportunities are no surprise to the Women's Desk, as we prepare to announce a group of 35 players that will spear head the preparation of the 2014 AWC.”, she said.

The two, Noreses and Donn came through the NFA/ UNICEF funded Galz and Goals programme and are also doing well academically.

“In their 2012 grade 12 Examination, Carmel obtaining 42 points from Windhoek Gymnasium School whilst Lena Noreses from Jan Mohr HS scored 36. That’s exactly what we wanted to prove to everyone that it is possible to balance both Sports and Education and excel in both fields.”

According to their excited parents Walter Donn and Eveline Noreses the "gap" year in Germany will benefit the girls tremendously to not only learn a new language and cultures but it will prepare them to make adequate choices as they will both be anticipating to further their studies at top level Universities in South Africa come 2014 in Namibia.

Both Lena and Carmel are part of the Elite players’ squad and will have to use their time in the German League to win places in Coach Shipanga's final squad for the CAF Women Championship in 2014 to be hosted by Namibia.
