Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup Launched!

In yet another milestone for Namibia Football in 2013, the NFA and mining giant Skorpion Zinc on Thursday announced a sponsorship deal worth N$1.3 million.

At a precious event that was held at the Safari Hotel on Thursday in Windhoek, Skorpion Zinc mine announced that they have reached an agreement with the Namibia football Association (NFA) to foster football development for a period of three years.

The deal worth N$ 1.3 Million will see the first edition of the Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup held at Keetmanshoop from 19 to 22 April 2012.

Barry Rukoro of the NFA says the deal is very significant as it will provide a platform for youngsters to share and display their skills.

“It is a great millstone, one of the many of course for the Association and it will provide a platform for the youngsters to be well groomed for national teams selection and become better national team players”.

Rukoro also emphasis the educational part of the championship.

“It will also afford many people a chance to travel and see Namibia and learn from others and appreciate others ways and cultures more, so we are delighted to have agreed with Skorpion Zinc for this marriage”.

The championship will see regional under-17 teams square off for prestige, bragging rights and overall dominance and according to the draw, Otjozondjupa, Khomas, Omaheke and Kunene Regions will be in Group A; Omusati, Oshana, Hardap and Kavango Regions will compete in Group B.

Group C is having Erongo, Karas, Oshikoto, Caprivi and Ohangwena Regions with the winners of Group A and B to progress to the semi-finals where they will be joined by the winner and runner-up of Group C.
