South Africa qualify for TN Mobile CAF Women Champs

South Africa are the first country to qualify for the ninth edition of the TN Mobile CAF Women Championships to be held in Namibia from 11-24 October 2014, following Comoros withdrawal from qualifying on Tuesday.

Comoros FA asked the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to allow them to withdraw their women team from the qualifiers following their devastating 13-0 defeat at the hands of South Africa last week Friday.

Perennial qualifiers Ghana’s Black Queens also won 2-0 away and Ethiopia ahead of next weekend’s second leg matches who will determine who joins host Namibia and South Africa.

Another African women powerhouse, Nigeria also won last weekend as they thumped Rwanda 4-1, while Senegal held Cameroon to one-all draw in Dakar.
Reigning African champions, Equatorial Guinea were held one-all by Cote d’Ivoire and Algeria beat Tunisia 2-1.

The return leg will take place on the weekend of 6-8 June 2014 with six teams emerging to join hosts Namibia and already qualified South Africa for the final tournament from 11-24 October, also a qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next year.

The Namibia national team is in Westphalia, Germany for a –three-week training camp in final preparations for the TN Mobile CAF Women Championships and are expected back home on Monday, 2 June.
