Goalkeeper Virgil Vries is missing from the Brave Warriors camp ahead of the 2017 AFCON Qualifier match against Niger on Saturday at home while striker Peter Shalulile will be available for the team’s Group K AFCON Qualifier match.

Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti reveals that Maritzburg United goalkeeper Virgil Vries has gone AWOL and his whereabouts are not known, with only Max Mbaeva and Dawid Petersen in the team as goalkeepers, following the withdrawal of Edward Maova with injury on Friday morning.

“ Virgil joined the camp on Friday and everyone was told that we have an assignment on Saturday (Cosafa trophy tour at Gobabis) and we are all going there. After this was communicated to him, he vanished and we have tried in vain to contact him and he has not contacted anyone of us from the technical team to the players”, a disappointed Mannetti says.

Peter Shalulile, who has become key to the Warriors game, will be available for selection when this weekend as the team takes on Niger in the AFCON Qualifier at the Sam Nujoma stadium.

“I’m please to reveal that Highlands Park has agreed to release Peter for the game and we are very thankful to the club’s understanding, especially to the coach Allen Freese. Peter is and remains key to our team and if we can have him anytime we can take him because he is a player that gives 100 percent and a source of inspiration as well” says Mannetti.

Free State Stars striker Hendrick Somaeb remains a doubtful starter for the Niger clash on Saturday, 16h00, Sam Nujoma Stadium and will have to undergo a late fitness test, Mannetti says.

The Brave Warriors continue their training for the Niger game with 24 players in camp at the moment with only 18 to make the match-day squad and will regroup again after the AFCON match to focus on Cosafa Cup which will be contested 11 to 25 June in Windhoek.
