The Young Warriors played to a goalless draw with Zimbabwe on Tuesday afternoon at the Nkana Stadium in Kitwe to all but bow out of 2017 Cosafa Under -20 Championships underway in Zambia as they finished behind Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Namibia had to win against Zimbabwe in their match that played simultaneously with the Lesotho/Angola game, but it was not to be and the more vital statistic, the shots at goal, the sides were equal on two each on target at half time.

Enzo Mungendje replaced Petrus Kamati on the hour mark as coach Gerald Guther searched for the elusive goal but the latter could not replicate his form from the 1-0 win over Angola on match-day one. Rivaldo Festus also came on as he replaced the goal scorer in the 2-1 defeat to Lesotho, Romario Hawiseb on 74 minutes but in the end it was all she wrote as the game fizzled out to a goalless draw and confirmed Namibia’s exit from the competition with four points.

A disappointed Guther is optimistic about the way forward: “ All the games were tough and if we would have pulled out a performance like today in the prior games, we could have topped the group. A true warriors performance today, but in football you have to be consistent and that is what we need to improve on. We are doing a lot of hard work at the FA and we need to consistent working hard and improve all the time” Guther explains.

Lesotho also placed to a goalless draw with Angola and thus top the group on five points and will face Uganda in the second semifinal while South Africa will be facing Egypt in the first semifinals to be played on Thursday.
