MA Elite Referee Course Underway

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) Match Officials are being treated to a FIFA Member Association (MA) Elite Referee Course to enhance the local referees’ knowledge of the game and to effect greater uniformity standards of performance at the national, regional and international levels.

The MA Elite Referees Course started off on Sunday, 30 September and ends on Thursday 04 October at the at the NFA Technical Centre in Windhoek and course instructor Felix Tangawarima explains.

“We are here to help lift the standard of refereeing in Namibia and who knows possibly in another five or ten years one of you sited here can officiate at international games. The course will highlight the Laws 11 & 12 of the game. We also looking at the controversial “off-side” rule which is a major issue whenever a referee makes the call”.

He also adds that the course would place great emphasis on discipline as match fixing is on the rise in Africa.

“Anyone can help fix the game, be it your instructor, a staff from the association or a random stranger. FIFA does not take lightly on match fixing, it will be the end of your career” Tangawarima states.

NFA Executive Committee Member Stephanus Shimbike congratulates FIFA for having the course and emphasized on the value of the course, adding it was opportune as the referees are preparing for the start of the Namibia Premier League later this month.
The course consists of 39 participants and instructors with Six (6) females.
