Young Gladiators in a must-win against Ghana

The Young Gladiators will be gunning for a win when they host Ghana on Saturday afternoon at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Following their 7-0 defeat two weeks ago in Accra the Young Gladiators will be hosting Ghana in the second leg match at 15h00 in a must-win encounter for the home side.

Head coach of the national women football Jacqueline Shipanga, team-work will win it for the Young Gladiators who will be missing some keys players.

“ we don’t rely on individual brilliance, but teamwork and on Saturday we will see that on the pitch”, Shipanga said.

The team has been training twice a day in the last week ahead of the game and Shipanga explained why.

“ It is a game we have to win at home and so we had to negotiate with understanding parents and schools for them to allow the girls to be with us this final week and we believe it will reap results on Saturday”.

The team will be missing Tomalina Adams who could not make it from Germany due to her club’s pre-season commitments, but defender Veweziwa Kotjipati also based in Germany have made the team.
Other players missing due to injury includes the likes of Anuscka Meyer, round-based Scholastica Ndara, Jane Toivo and Eddelissingh Naris. Their places are taken by Julian Blou from Mariental , Burney Dennis, Outjo's Camatha Uiras, Anna Shikusho and Ndapewa Iipinge.

The team who comprises of only three 18 year old and the rest being under-17 players, includes the 13 year old midfielder Mellisa Matheus who hails from Otavi.
Shipanga have also praised the family support for the players.

“ the parents have been supporting of their kids and that drives us on to do better at all times. We have a young team and we looking at it being the Brave Gladiators into years time if everything goes well”, Shipanga revealed.

Shipanga will be duly assisted by her long-time assistant coach Bryan van Staden, while former Pirates and SKW goal minder Herman January continues to guide the keepers and Wayne Damon is the Physiotherapist.

The game will kickoff at 15h00 on Saturday and entrance will be free.
