FIFA BACKS NFA AGAIN – 17/04/2008

The NFA has once again received another welcome confidence booster from the world governing body FIFA. Namibia has been identified as one of the countries that will benefit from FIFA’s pilot project in the development of women football.  The details of the project are not yet clear but FIFA will send a women football expert to Namibia to assist the NFA Women Football Desk with the latest methods in the development of the women game.  The expert will be in Namibia from the 01st to 06th June 2008. More details will be made available as they unfold.

FIFA’s decision to include Namibia is a clear vindication of the efforts of the NFA in the development of the women game.  The Brave Gladiators, Namibia’s senior women national team has grown into one of the strongest in the sub region and are the current vice-champions of COSAFA.  This growth has happened on the back of established regional leagues for women football.  The NFA has established six regional leagues across the country. The plan is to establish a women football league in each of the thirteen regions of the country.

Jackey Gertze, the driving force behind the growth of the women game in Namibia, has recently been invited to share her experiences with football people in Angola, next month, at a workshop. Her invitation to Angola follows another presentation made by her at the 4th FIFA Women Football Symposium in Shanghai, China.
