Figge to be appointed NFA technical director
Namibia now has a German football expert as a technical director at Soccer House in the person of Jochen Figge.
Figge is a highly acclaimed soccer instructor and coach who has had coaching stints in many parts of Africa. His coaching career stretches over fourty years, including stints as youth, club and national coach.
The news of Figge’s appointment was broken by NFA spokesperson Beau Kauta and Markus Weidner, the Head of Coaching, Education and Marketing of the German Football Association (DFB) last month.
The appointment of Figge was made in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the NFA and the DFB. In terms of the MoU, the DFB will foot the bill for Figge’s remuneration.
Under Figge’s technical directorship, the NFA expects development courses to be organized in a broad spectrum of issues covering the coaching, refereeing, youth football, women’s football. Expectations are also that through his influence Namibian soccer officials can attend development courses and workshops in Germany.
Figge is replacing Seth Boois who resigned from that position at the end of February 2008.
