Schans new head coach

After much speculation, the Namibia Football Association has at last
confirmed that Arie Schans will take charge of the national soccer team.
That appointment was confirmed in  March.

Schans was already involved with the team, taking them through their paces
and playing a friendly against Malawi. Namibia lost that match 3-1 at
Independence stadium in Windhoek.

Schans was also acting head coach during Namibia's participation at the
Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana during February 2008. He oversaw two defeats
and one draw during that campaign.

The spokesperson of the Namibia Football Association Beau Kauta said after
all formalities have been concluded, Schans would amongst others be expected
to head a Coaches Forum to share ideas with club coaches and to develop
strategies to take Namibian soccer to a higher level.

Kauta said that Schans was keen to take on the job and was also eager to
arrange some friendly matches for the Brave Warriors before they start their
2010 World Cup qualifying campaign at the end of May.

Schans had already targeted a friendly against Angola to take place in
April, while the NFA was also looking at other options, Kauta said.
