South Africa COSAFA Women Champions – 10/05/2008
South African women have emulated their male counterparts by winning the COSAFA Women Championship in Malanje, Angola today. Banyana Banyana as they are popularly known has overwhelmed Angola in the final match of a very successful competition. Noko Motlau scored all three goals to confirm her credentials as the tournaments top goal scorer with twelve goals for the competition – a record for the female competition. Angola’s Jacinta Ramos the second top goal scorer scored Angola’s solitary goal.
The match saw the largest crowd of spectators of the competition. About Fifteen thousand partisan fans attended the match.
In the match for third place Namibia put up its worst performance of the competition to draw against lowly Zimbabwe and than lost 5-4 on penalties.
