WOMEN TAKE COSAFA BY STORM –04/05/2008
The Brave Gladiators have taken the example set by the national U/17 men’s football team against Lesotho seriously and have taken to scoring goals of their own.
The National Women Football Team has scored eight goals and allowed only two against in the team’s two opening matches in Group A of the COSAFA Women’s Championship currently underway in Malanje and Benguela, in Angola. Namibia netted four times without reply in their match against Swaziland while they score the same number of goals against Mozambique in their second match on Sunday as well. The Mozambican ladies however replied with two goals of their own.
In other matches Angola Also got off to a good start when they defeated Mozambique by four goals to zero, but found themselves heavily frustrated by a highly committed Swazi team in their second match. They could only score two goals whish leave Namibia with the enviable position of group leader. Although Namibia and Angola have both already qualified for the semi final, they will play each other in the final group match to decide the overall group winner.
In Group B South Africa and Zimbabwe appears to be the two qualifiers for the semi final places as they have both attained victories against Zambia and lowly Botswana.
