THE NAMIBIAN CHALLENGE LAUNCHED – 25/02/2008

The Namibia Football Association and The Namibian Newspaper today formally launched The Namibian Challenge at a well attended media briefing at Soccer House.  The Namibian Challenge, which, this season replaces the popular Namibian Newspaper Cup will see the Namibian National U/20 Team engage their South African counterparts in an International Friendly match on the 08th March at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura.

Speaking at the launch the Editor of The Namibian, Madam Gwen Lister, said: “The Namibian seized the opportunity, when it was offered to them, to assist the U/20 national team to properly prepare for their upcoming African Youth Championship Qualifiers”.

Also speaking at the event NFA Treasurer Mr. Kapenda reminded those in attendance that the Namibian Newspaper has and continues to make a significant contribution to the development of football in the country.  He also reminded that a number of the Brave Warriors squad that went to Ghana made their mark at the annual Namibian Newspaper Cup from where they than moved on to obtain national colours at youth level before their selection for the senior national team.

Meanwhile the U/17 National Team will also participate in a Four Nations Tournament to be co-hosted by the NFA and the Directorate of Sport in Walvisbay and Swakopmund. The other three teams participating in the competition are South Africa, Zimbabwe and the German province of Westphalia.    The competition will start on the 16th and conclude on the 20th March 2008.
