| The Namibia’s top flight league has been exciting of late with some close contests in the 12-team table, but is the defending champion’s African tars who leads on goal-difference from second placed Pirates, both on 24 points.
“It has been the best NPL season so far and it promises to get better. I think this is owed to the fact that MTC have put more money and clubs have upped their administration and level of professionalism and so has the players, says Premiership administrator Tovey Hoebeb.
Pirates will open the New Year with a date against Tigers at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday night (20h00).
“The second round promises to be a humdinger and we are all bracing fit. It is a great year of football, the Nations Cup in Angola, the World Cup in South Africa later in June” he added.
The Premiership teams will join lower division clubs in the last 32 of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) flagship competition, the 2010 LEO NFA Cup.
Despite losing coach Ali Akan towards the end of the first round, Black Africa are third on 22 points with premiership returnees Blue Waters beating Kuisebmund Township rivals in Walvis Bay 1-0 to move into fourth place on 20 points, ahead of Tigers, also similar points.
At the bottom of the table, Hotspurs are languishing with five points from 11 matches with Oshakati City two pits ahead in the second relegation berth. Pionerspark-based Ramblers are 10th with eighth points with another rookie United Stars from Rundu sitting ninth with as much points below Civics and Eleven Arrows, positioned seventh and eighth on 11 and 10 points respectively.
